Application process

At British Airways, we use a variety of different methods to determine who the best candidate is for each of our job opportunities. It doesn't matter which role you're applying for, you can be sure that the application process will be fair, objective, and comprehensive; assessing key competencies that are important for success in the role.

Before applying for a job at British Airways, we advise that you read the job description carefully and assess whether you have those important qualities and skills that will make you a success in the role. Please also be aware of our policies surrounding adjustments and special requirements, diversity and inclusion, and discussing your application.

The key phases of the application process for our contact centre roles are:

BA Online ApplicationStage 1 - Online application and assessment
After registering online, there will be a number of online tests to complete, which will vary depending on the role you are applying for.

BA Telephone IconStage 2 - Telephone interview
If you are successful at the online assessment stage, we'll arrange a time and date for a telephone interview, so we can get to know you better.

BA Background CheckStage 3 - Background check upload
Next, we'll ask you to upload basic information about yourself to an online portal; we'll review this as part of the pre-employment screening process, if you're successful at the assessment centre.

BA Assessment IconStage 4 - Assessment centre
This is where we'll meet you, face-to-face, in a session lasting around 2/3 hours. It's a fun, relaxed day where we'll bring you together in a group with other people who have applied for the same role. We'll start the day with an icebreaker exercise, so you can get to know the other applicants and the facilitators who are running the session. We'll then ask to complete two or three activities, such as role playing, a group exercise, and an in-tray exercise - these will help us understand more about your skills and competencies, and help us to determine if you're right for the role. We may ask you to complete one or two assessments before the assessment day too, but we'll always let you know which assessments need to be done in advance, and which will be completed on the day.

BA Offer IconStage 5 - Offer stage
We'll confirm the outcome of the assessment centre within five days, whether you've been successful or not.

BA Final Check IconStage 6 - Pre-employment checks
Before you can start your employment with us, you'll need to successfully complete our screening process - this is a two stage process. First we'll check all of your references, except for your most recent one. If you pass this stage, we'll let you know your start date, before checking your most recent reference and criminal record.

Please be aware that our selection process may change during the campaign to include additional sifting and selection tools or alternative processes.

Adjustments and special requirements
British Airways is committed to being a fair and inclusive employer. We are a member of the UK government's Two Ticks scheme, demonstrating that we are positive about employing, retaining, and developing disabled people within our business. We take care to follow best practice and train all our assessors to a high standard. We know that sometimes people need adjustments or have special requirements during the recruitment and assessment process, so there will be an opportunity for you to highlight any requests at the start of the application process and we will help wherever we can.

Diversity and inclusion
Two Ticks LogoAs a global airline carrying customers of different nationalities, cultures, religions and sexual orientation, British Airways is committed to actively promoting diversity and understanding. We're strongly supportive of the principles of diversity and inclusion, and aim to treat all candidates fairly and consistently during all aspects of the recruitment process. All candidates are considered strictly on merit and in relation to assessment criteria.

Discussing your application
Honesty and integrity are important values for British Airways, and we take every effort to ensure our employees support these values so it is important to us that you also act with honesty and integrity. We know that you might want to tell others that you've applied, but please don't share details of the recruitment process as it may compromise the fairness and integrity of the entire selection process - and it could advantage other applicants and potentially disadvantage you. Doing so may even disqualify you from the selection process.
