Videos & Practical Advice

Videos & Advice

In this section we have included some videos and advice which we feel might be useful when applying for jobs. In these times, face to face interviews have been suspended by most organisations.  Therefore, expect to either have phone interviews or video interviews through Skype or some other video chat facility.

Use your CV to showcase your achievements. Companies are results-orientated, so it’s important that you emphasise how you made a difference in your previous roles and the value you added. And remember, honesty is the best policy. Make sure all the information is accurate, up-to-date, and there are no exaggerations.

Your CV needs to attract the reader’s attention and create interest quickly. Using clear subheadings and bullet points can help with this. Furthermore, try to keep it under two pages long, and avoid jargon and abbreviations – they can make it more difficult to read.

Remember to adjust your CV for every job you apply for. It’s important that you target it for the specific role, showing why you’re suitable and what you can contribute.

When you think you’re finished, ask someone else to proof read it for you. A fresh pair of eyes can help you to pick up on any grammatical or spelling mistakes that you’ve missed. Finally, commit it to memory. Your CV will form the basis of your interview, so be prepared to discuss everything you’ve listed.

If you’ve been invited for a job interview, the recruiter thinks you hold the right skills and experience for the role. This is your chance to prove it to them, and demonstrate in-person that you’re perfect for the job.

Before the interview, research the organisation, by taking a look at the website and any recent news articles which relate to them. Make a mental note of what they do, latest industry trends, and basic information like their number of locations and employees. You can use this information during the interview to show you’re genuinely interested in what they do.

Finally, remember that first impressions are important. So take the time to carefully consider what you’ll wear and prepare your route in advance. During the interview, show the interviewer that you’re interested in the job by maintaining eye contact and using positive body language. Keep your responses relevant to the question; and clearly articulate why you want the job. And remember – take your time.
