About the role
We're looking for a Principal Electrical Engineer within the Submarine Support Engineering (SSE) group. We're a key strategic partner to our customers; the MOD and the Royal Navy. We ensure that the UK Royal Navy goes to sea safely by supporting them in Devonport and around the world, delivering complex ship and submarine sustainment programmes and applying our core strengths of technology and expertise to sustain critical and complex assets to help maintain national security.


As the Principle Electrical Engineer you will with a mix of Chartered Engineers, ex-Operators and Graduate Engineers. You will be accountable for the production and delivery of Engineering Studies, Technical Specifications and Design Change Installation Guidance. This will be across a range of Marine Electrical and Signature Reduction Systems. You will look after the day-to-day management and coordination of allocated engineers working on your projects and deliverables.


As a Principal Electrical Engineer you will coordinate the inputs being provided by other departments including Structures, Naval Architecture, Mechanical and Safety and manage the scoping, costing and planning of deliverables.


You will ensure deliverables meet the contracted requirements and compliance with the technical specifications and conduct engineering reviews, quality assurance checks, approval of design drawings and other deliverables. As well as chairing Design Reviews and attending Hazard Identification Assessments.


Using your knowledge you will act as the main point of contact with the customer, training and development of Electrical Group team members and you will be responsible for continuous improvement of the SSE Electrical Team and the development of processes, procedures and best practice guides.

What do I need to do the role?
You will have a degree level qualification in Electrical Engineering or similar and be a Chartered Engineer.


We would also like you to have experience in the following areas:
*Engineering across a wide range of marine systems.
*Review and approval of engineering studies (including Feasibility and Options Studies).
*Review and approval of engineering drawings.
*Leading teams to deliver outputs to cost, time and quality requirements of a contract.
*Primary point of contact for a customer.
*Development of engineering staff.

What else do I need to know?
*The successful candidate will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving 'Security Check' (SC) clearance.
