Energy & Marine (E&M) is a business unit within the Marine Division of Babcock International Group. E&M Engineering is a leading design consultancy providing naval architecture, marine, system engineering, electrical engineering design and project support services to the marine and defence markets worldwide. We have vast experience in engineering, construction, concept design and through life support for a wide range of front line naval and auxiliary support vessels.

The Division is expanding rapidly with complex, high-profile defence projects including Type 31 Frigate Design & Build Programme and the Successor Programme as well as providing engineering services to the UK Surface Ship and Submarine fleet. Therefore, we are looking to grow our existing team, building on a well-established foundation of over 700 staff across the UK.

The Type 31 Project will deliver 5 general purpose, global, adaptable and exportable frigates to the Royal Navy designed to undertake a range of operational tasks from maritime security, humanitarian aid and disaster relief and defence engagement to operation in a high threat environment. The Project is the pathfinder and cornerstone of the National Shipbuilding Strategy and will be delivered in an innovative manner at pace with all 5 ships to be in-service by Dec 2028.

Main Purpose

We are looking for a Supportability, Reliability & Maintainability Cases Lead with responsibility for daily management of the R&M and supportability analysis programme and for the delivery of the supportability and R&M cases, supportability modelling and associated T31 contractual deliverables.

Responsibilities

  • Manage R&M and supportability analysis programme for the Supportability Analysis Lead
  • Deliver System and Equipment Supportability Cases
  • Deliver Class Supportability Cases
  • Deliver R&M Plan and Case Reports
  • Deliver Maintenance Burden and Availability modelling
  • Manage RCM programme and Xpedite sub-contract activity
  • Provide technical input to Initial Provisioning Ranging and Scaling
  • Manage the T31e Defect Reporting and Corrective Action System
  • Deliver or contribute to the delivery of broader supportability deliverables as defined in the T31 Design and Build contract and as directed by the T31 Head of Supportability
  • Support Supportability and Design Reviews

What do I need to do the role?

You will be Degree or HNC qualified in an engineering discipline (mechanical, marine, electrics/electronics or systems) or relevant experience. Ideally, you will be a Chartered Engineer or Incorporated Engineer working towards Chartered status.

You will have experience in the application of Supportability Analysis and Reliability & Maintainability techniques. You will be an ARM Practitioner with experience in Reliability Centred Maintenance techniques and the ability to work in a complex, multi-discipline team.

A defence or marine background is essential with experience of Integrated Logistics Support (ILS). More specifically, working understanding of appropriate ILS Defence Standards (e.g. 00-600, 00-45) and ASD S-Series of ILS specifications in particular S3000L and S4000P.

What else do I need to know?

  • You will need to satisfy Ministry of Defence security requirements. This may require you to hold or be eligible/capable of achieving 'Security Check' (SC) clearance
