Babcock's Submarine Support Engineering (SSE) Group is contracted to provide engineering and design services support to the Ministry of Defence, and in particular, In-service Submarines (ISM) Project Team who form part of the Defence Engineering and Support Organisation. The Advanced Planning Team is a small and dedicated team working within the SSE Organisation, based in Keynsham and at the Bristol Technology Centre in Bristol. We are responsible for identifying the work package, from a variety of data sources including the Through Life Boat Plan and the Submarine Definition Database, for forthcoming submarine maintenance periods and completing an Indicative Planning Schedule (IPS) for each maintenance period. You'll be permanently based in HMNB Clyde with occasional travel to Bristol and Plymouth.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for an Advanced Planning and Support Engineer to utilise your expert knowledge and experience to conduct the advanced planning of submarine maintenance activities and understand the spares that will be required for this work. This creates a varied, exciting and challenging area to work within and provides excellent opportunities for future growth.

What will you be doing?

Your role has 2 parts. Firstly, under the guidance of the Advanced Planning Principle Planning Engineer, you, as the Advanced Planning and Support Engineer, will identify the work required for the forthcoming submarine maintenance period. Using your engineering knowledge and experience, you will then resolve any ambiguities within these activities whilst ensuring that all work requirements are clearly defined and achievable. This will require regular liaison with a variety of stakeholders to ensure accuracy and achievement of the required quality to satisfy our exacting customer. Finally, you will complete a Key Date Schedule for this work.

Secondly, you will be involved in the Demand Planning of materials for the scheduled work. This will involve the development and review of materials demand plans and recommending adjustments/improvements to make it more reflective of the whole task. This will include work in way and work in wake. In carrying out this activity, you will use technical information to identify material requirements for work packages, use historic information for Surveys and Inspections and consult with Stakeholders (incl but not limited to SSE, Babcock Fleet Engineering, Babcock PMO Materiel Planners and RN Ships Staff) to harvest Learning From Experience (LFE) data to forecast future materials requirements and provide information to support reviews and amendments to Submarine Technical Publications when necessary.

The experience you'll bring

As the Advanced Planning and Support Engineer, you will have an engineering qualification eg degree or HNC/HND or demonstrable relevant experience, at least 5 years' experience in engineering delivery and a good knowledge of submarine or surface ship operations and maintenance activities.

Ideally, you will have experience in managing and running submarine maintenance activities and have previously qualified as a submarine Marine Engineering Department Category C, Category B or Category A watchkeeper.

You will be a sole UK National.
