Manpower Recruitment are looking for a Full Time, Permanent IT Officer, based in Oxford City Centre in an established College.

This role is Full Time, 40hrs per week and working pattern will be Monday-Friday with occasional evenings and weekends depending on business needs.

The role is paying 30k-33k, depending on experience.

Job Summary

The IT Officer's role is to provide customer-focused, front line IT support to staff, students and visitors to the College. This will include working as a member of the IT team, both under the direction of the IT Manager and independently in day-to-day activities by reacting quickly and effectively to IT problems. The main duties include solving users' problems, providing advice and guidance installing and configuring PCs and application software and carrying out office administration.

Key Responsibilities

Primary

IT Support

  • Assist the IT Manager in the day-to-day activities of the College IT department, and react quickly and efficiently to IT issues as they arise.
  • Install and configuration of PCs
  • Install and support computers and software provided by the College to administrative and academic staff.
  • Provide support to College users including computer maintenance, training and advice, in particular drop-in support for students during term time and support for conferences during vacations.
  • Maintain virus-checking software on College owned equipment and assist students with installation and updates.
  • Deal with malware and clean up suspected virus infections and account compromises in a safe manner.
  • Assist the IT Manager with other tasks such as network management, software deployment as required
  • Maintain a database of IT fixed assets owned by College.
  • Keep track and organise replacement of stocks of consumables including toner and ink cartridges.

Education

  • Assist staff with computer usage and basic troubleshooting.
  • Produce and maintain computing documentation for students and staff.
  • Inform students about facilities available, College regulations and best practices.

Conference

  • Work with the AV Officer to set up and support computers, printers and audio visual equipment for conference use during the vacations.

Secondary

  • Assist the IT Manager with the maintenance of general College systems.
  • Office administration/reorganisation
  • Work with the IT Manager on developing scripts for automating routine tasks such as installation and configuration of software or proactive monitoring for problems.

Person Specification

The successful candidate will have practical knowledge of desktop support for current Windows and Mac operating systems, as well as good knowledge of supporting common application software such as Microsoft Office. They will also have a working knowledge of networking principles and have experience of troubleshooting network problems on both wired and wireless networks.

Whilst not essential, it would be an advantage to have knowledge of: the Oxford University IT systems; Windows servers and Active Directory; configuring network equipment; virtualisation; and automation systems such as Ansible.

The ideal person for this position will have a logical and proven ability to solve problems for users and wants to develop their skills and work towards greater responsibilities.

Essential Experience & Skills:

  • Working knowledge of networking principles and experience of troubleshooting network problems with both wired and wireless networks.

  • Good working experience with multiple operating systems and platforms.
  • Familiarity with Windows servers and Active Directory

  • Familiarity with Cisco, Ruckus or Unifi network equipment
  • Virtualisation concepts, with VMware or Hyper-V
  • Knowledge of programming or scripting languages such as PowerShell, Python or Perl, particularly relating to installation, configuration or automation of routine tasks.
  • Knowledge of automation tools such as Ansible.
