Job Title - Expert - Chassis CAD

Salary - £60(circa)

Job Purpose:

The role is for a CAD Expert with the responsibility for writing and implementing Chassis CAD standards and working procedures, and leading the development of technical best practice for 2D and 3D CAD progression of key suspension systems and components, from initial concept studies through to part and assembly drawings for production, including integration into PLM software

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for creation and deployment of CAD Design Manuals, Engineering Standards & Specifications and all other Chassis CAD methodology documentation to aid modelling efficiency.
  • Monitor third party CAD resource and ensure working practices are adhered to.
  • Responsible for generation of concept design volumes and optimised component load paths to progress FEA loops
  • Support component design for manufacture loops
  • Set up framework to produce kinematic system models, dynamic clearance envelopes, and train Chassis team in their use
  • Prepare detail drawings & models of proposed design changes to support the engineering release process.
  • Collaborate effectively with component engineers during team technical discussions to ensure swift and accurate design progression.
  • Keep abreast of technical developments within the industry with particular reference to the evolution of NX and TCe,
  • Benchmark best practice within automotive for CAD progression and PLM integration, lead Chassis involvement in PLM software integration activities.
  • Additionally as required: Co-ordinate flow of CAD data into and out of the company via data exchange tools, attend packaging meetings and virtual builds to support Chassis concept progression, support Chassis component engineers with component and system design progression in NX

Qualification & Experience:

  • High level of experience with Siemens NX for both 3D modelling and 2D drafting.
  • Good working knowledge of Chassis and suspension systems, including sub-components and their function.
  • Good knowledge of machining, casting, forging, and welding standards, including Design for Manufacture requirements
  • Good working knowledge of VIS Mockup and Teamcenter PLM software
  • Ability to work as part of a small team and actively participate in creation and development of innovative design solutions within the R&D environment.
  • Experience of using of kinematic system modelling in NX to manipulate components, create clearance zones and design volumes.
  • Knowledge of MISSION or an equivalent Product Creation System such as GPDS, FPDS, AMPCS.
  • Competent in all Microsoft Office applications.
  • Previous chassis component engineering experience within an automotive OEM or automotive components supplier would be desirable
  • Working knowledge of Chassis FEA tools (e.g. ABAQUS, Altair Simsolid)
  • Engineering degree or HNC/HND apprenticeship in an appropriate engineering discipline.
  • Trained in the use of Siemens NX and Teamcenter, with real world usage.
