Frequently Asked Questions
How long will my application take?
As we are a financial services organisation, you'll need to undergo a background and security check. This can take some time, so we would expect to turnaround your application within four weeks of applying. Our recruitment partners, Manpower, will keep you updated throughout the vetting process.
What are the background and security checks?
Our background checking includes a basic criminal record check. Failure to disclose convictions or cautions during your application will result in your application being terminated. We will also check your financial status to ensure you do not have un-discharged debt.
Manpower will also verify your previous three year employment/academic record and request references from previous employers.
What does the assessment centre involve?
During our assessment centre, we will evaluate your communication and team working skills by undertaking a few group exercises. We want to see your personality which is just as important as the skills you have. You will also have the chance to find out more about us and the job on offer. An assessment centre normally takes around 90 minutes.
Is there a minimum age?
You must be of school leaving age to work for the Student Loans Company. In addition, you must be aged 18 or over to apply for an evening/night position as this involves working beyond 11pm.
If I'm not successful, can I try again?
If your application has been unsuccessful, we would ask you to wait six months before applying for the same position.
Who do I contact for help or assistance?
You should direct all your recruitment queries to Manpower by calling 0191 227 5908 or emailing [email protected].
